The question is simple. It’s not about the story of the guy who built his business from scratch with the help of no one but himself. It is the story of every business in the world today. It is your story too if you are marketing your content in a way that builds social influence. It is your tale if you are selling a product in this noise of advertisement today.
Whether you are a restaurant or a gadget company, you are a salesman or a social media advocate, what you are saying and how you are saying it is build a perception. It is building a promise of your product, your service and your campaign.
If you make people believe your product is reliable – it is popular and it is being used by everyone on the face of the earth, you are building social influence. You are making people believe, your product matters.
And your content in this pitch makes all the difference. I for one believe ads are exaggerated, untrue and can never be trusted. Who built that perception for me? All the companies who lied to me by presenting products they claimed were awesome when they actually did nothing for me.
Each time someone buys a promise and gets an empty shell, a company loses future business. What companies today need to focus on is marketing that promises trust and delivers it too.
In the clutter of advertisement, an easy, minimalistic message is simple to understand and if it’s telling the truth in a reliable way then your marketing is building credibility too.
Another thing you need to build are opinions. People believe other people – their friends and family. They believe recommendations. They believe content posted in forums much betters than the ads. They believe opinions.
Check out this infographic that tells the story of social proof and tells it convincingly too. The story here tells you that only 3% people believe that ads are very accurate. According to that, something is not right with the marketing trends today.
I’ll leave you to ponder on that thought. Do share your comments on the story being told here today. Happy reading!
