How can you create videos for your own business

June 19, 2013 By Ayesha Sohaib

Videos | Wordsmith ConsultingThe concentration span of a gold-fish. Well, who would have thought we would be in a time and age where readers would become skimmers. And people would move on from one information site to another in a span of 8 seconds.

This incredible fact has changed the way marketers looks at brands and marketing tactics. This is a time where writers are tweeting in a limited number of 140 characters and hash tags is the hottest topic of discussion on the global forum of internet. That is the most amazing thing about the web. It has transformed businesses, marketing trends, writing styles and is even leaving its effects on the english language. In the middle of all this, is the challenge for marketers to keep their brands in the spotlight.

Attention is a commodity today. And everyone wants some. In this race, content marketing offers a way out for marketers across the world. Where more brands are joining in to become part of the changing marketing trends. Text is one thing. Videos are quite another.

We know that Content marketing is made up of many channels — but we also know that videos remain one of the most effective tools to capture attention and generate leads for conversions. Text will only do so much. With shorter concentration spans, your videos have a better chance at converting leads and creating customers.

If you are a brand manager or are in the middle of setting up a content marketing plan, make sure your videos are telling the stories of your brand. Here are some tips on how you can create videos for your own business.

Easy steps to get you started

Create a story board for your video. This will create plan which you can improve, refine and finally process for the end result. Illustrations, visual clues and a screen play will help you build the idea.

Don’t go in directly for the kill. Which means don’t just start talking about why people should be buying your product. Establish the need for why your business, service or product is a need for the consumer in the first place.

Start with an interesting fact, a story or an anecdote. Everyone loves a good story. It can be a great way to get the attention you need to create a lead.

Spruce up a mix of animations, pictures, text and testimonials. Even a voice over works great if used with the right idea.

You don’t need fancy effects in the video for it to click. If you have used simple language and kept your script clear of too much information, people will watch it. They will share it and if you were able to carry your message without noise jarring its impact, it will also leave an impression.

Add an entertaining flavor to your video. Which means, don’t make it boring. If it’s a person talking, make sure they smile and chat in a colloquial manner. If it’s an animation,  add an interesting fact which will make people stop and listen to the voice over. Be witty. Use the message intelligently.

Use pleasant music if you are using any at all.

If you are sharing it on social media, make sure you enable embedding on the video. There are many sites that can help you do that. All you have to do is upload the video on the website.

At the end of your video, add credits or your brand name so that people can remember where the idea came from.

If you don’t know much about video production engage a specialist for the job. Someone who understands HD cameras, lighting and post production. Learn through the process and make sure you don’t compromise on the end product.

For those who wish to run video blogs, you need to ensure you have the capacity to create and upload multiple videos everyday. This mean, equipment plus resources to get the marketing plan up and about.
