Leaders today are faced with multiple challenges in the modern workplace. One is to consistently evaluate the changing business environment they operate in and that in itself is a humungous task.
With media acting as the watch dog and social media enhancing its influence and communication changing pace every second, the business environment is consistently in need of innovation, transition and effective project management.
Communication plays a very central role in the way leaders manage their businesses today. While the need for cultivation of strategic thinking and innovation in their talent is at the top of every leader’s mind, at the same time change management and consistent leadership communication has become the new black for businesses who want to move ahead with the times.
The evolving business environment is in need of new, enhanced skills. Skills that need to be cultivated in managers to harness a growth oriented and an ever evolving culture.
What employees on the other hand need to do is try to become more autonomous, be forth right in sharing their input and develop the voice of their function, department and competence to add value to the modern workplace.
It is no longer just the responsibility of CEOs and leadership to give direction to the company if that ever was the case. The strategic competencies of managers have to come right from middle management to senior management tiers.
The modern workplace is a collaboration of strengths and to ensure a change embracing culture, the work flow has to be operationally strong and strategically evolving.
The modern employee is no longer just catering to the need of a supervisor and the department. There is a need to work as a team with even those people who you do not report to. It is important to reach out beyond boundaries of functions, disciplines and departments to build synergies and overcome communication barriers.
It is be developing bonds, strong relationships and a culture of sharing, collaboration and open communication that employees and leaders can leverage the pace of change.
Especially to manage change and transformation in the company, the executive management needs to communicate and empower managers with autonomy even as they drive the change internally. Moreover, strategic players in the business environment need to have a close eye on the changing economic conditions in the world and persist in their stakeholder management.
This again is not just limited to executives. Anyone in the workplace is affected and it is up to us to determine how informed and prepared we are for change as and when it comes.
