It’s that time of the year, folks. Yes, it’s 14th August, the day our beautiful nation, Pakistan became an esteemed independent state.
We should always celebrate this day with all the joy in our hearts and every bit of enthusiasm we foster. But fireworks and biker boy shenanigans aside. We shouldn’t choose to overlook our past; all the blood, sacrifice, struggle and heartache shouldn’t be disregarded or forgotten. If it wasn’t for those, who laid down their lives for Pakistan, we wouldn’t have a place to call home.
Don’t get me wrong, have all the fun you want. There’s nothing more I love than seeing us, Pakistanis dwelling in the fiery spirit of patriotism, but let’s use that energy on something more worthwhile, shall we?
Here are 5 things you SHOULD do this Independence Day.
1. Time to Spam On Social Media and Hashtag Like Crazy
Yeah, you heard me. It’s time to loudly declare your love for your nation. Get your cameras out, take a gazillion photos and spam your social media! Take pictures of yourself, the fireworks, the flags, the spirit of independence. CAPTURE IT ALL AND SHARE IT WITH THE WORLD. Don’t forget to caption your posts with these hashtags:
#Azadi71
#HappyIndependenceDay
#14August
#FreedomDay
#PakistanZindabad
#DilDilPakistan
#GoGreen
2. Plant a tree
I cannot emphasize this enough! We’re all sensible citizens and we all learned the benefits of planting trees and a greener ecosystem in the 5th grade. Whoever you are, know that you are important and that you can make a difference. Get up, go to your nearest nursery, buy a tree plant it won’t cost you more than Rs. 100. Get one for yourself and one for your mate. Heck, name it if you want. I’ll call mine Gerald.
Pro tip: Do keep in mind that the trees that you plant are naturally sustainable to Pakistan’s environment.
3. Watch Patriotic Movies
It’s time to get in touch with Pakistan’s past. Get comfy on your couch, grab a bag of chips and rejoice in our nation’s past. Getting a visual of the events that lead from an idea to an entire nation will help you connect with Pakistan’s roots. You can watch films like Jinnah say Quaid, Bedari or Jinnah.
4. Blast Some Patriotic Tunes To Get You Into That Independence Day Spirit
You can’t claim to be patriotic if you don’t listen to patriotic songs this Independence Day. It’s time to put those speakers to good use and play Dil Dil Pakistan, Yeh Watan Tumhara Hay, Aye Watan Pyaare Watan and all the other classics!
5. Visit Army Nursing Homes
We should take this day as an opportunity to give back as well. That’s right, we should help those who have injured themselves in the line of duty or have given up a lot for the sake of their nation. Helping those who have helped make our country better. So, go visit an army nursing home, get a bunch of greeting cards and little gifts and visit the veterans now residing in the army nursing homes.
